Top screen talent to share new creative workspace

Startups, growing companies and innovative individual practitioners in the screen sector are invited to apply for residency in a new shared workspace to open in 2018 with investment from the Queensland Government through Screen Queensland.

“SQ Hub is an exciting new initiative that supports the growth of local screen businesses, and encourages collaboration and innovation to deliver a sustainable film industry in Queensland,” said Screen Queensland Chair Catherine O’Sullivan.

“SQ Hub will be a shared work space and incubator based in Teneriffe which offers subsidized office and meeting facilities along with a program of business-focused workshops, masterclasses, mentorship and networking opportunities.”

“SQ Hub will follow the successful model of the Queensland Government’s innovation hub The Precinct, which is operating at capacity in Fortitude Valley, and will help to further the productivity and broaden the profile of Queensland’s local screen industry.”

Ms O’Sullivan said establishing the SQ Hub was a long-held priority for Screen Queensland.

“SQ Hub is a co-working space specifically designed to meet the needs of screen businesses and creative entrepreneurs and responds to the industry’s ongoing representations of the real need for flexible workspaces.”

“Production companies and practitioners often come together on a project by project basis and for these companies, the overheads of traditional workspaces can be a significant burden,” she said.

“There will also be temporary space available for regional practitioners who may be travelling to Brisbane for meetings or to further their projects.”

“A key to the Hub’s success will be a dedicated SQ Hub manager who will coordinate a program of engaging events designed to foster a dynamic community of screen innovators.”

“The SQ Hub will help practitioners find ways to operate more sustainably, and its proximity to Screen Queensland’s offices will help to create an extended creative screen hub in the Teneriffe/Newstead area,” the Chair said.
