“Filming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales in Queensland was a great experience for us all… with its long and great history of local filmmaking, the crews and acting talent were absolutely superb. Queensland also has some of the most amazing landscapes on the planet, from beaches to jungles, and we took full advantage of that diversity.”
– Jerry Bruckheimer, Producer, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, May 2017
Jordan Vogt-Roberts knew he would film some of his exteriors in Queensland as soon as he touched down and saw the endless beach of South Stradbroke Island, about 60km southeast of Brisbane. He also fell in love with the hinterland rainforest surrounding Mt Tamborine.
“Queensland’s jungles have a unique and beautiful vibe. There was something about the space between the trees which reads so beautifully on film…and we had one of the best crews I’ve ever worked with in my entire life.”
– Jordan Vogt-Roberts, Director, Kong: Skull Island Sydney’s Daily Telegraph, 4 March 2017
“It’s not just that the Queensland teams are good at what they do. It’s the way they took on such a huge responsibility, understanding what… [we] expected, and constantly came up with ideas and solutions that went beyond what we could have hoped for.”
– Andy Paterson, Producer, The Railway Man
“I hope I can come back to make another film there (in Queensland.) I hope I can work with everyone again that I did on this film and we can make another film together.”
– Angelina Jolie, Director, Unbroken
“Modern Family shoots a great deal of every episode on location. The amazing thing about our experience in Queensland was that in many ways it was easier shooting there, on the other end of the world, than at some locations right here in Los Angeles. The people of Hamilton and Hayman Island we worked with could not have made our shoot go any smoother. And on a personal level it was the experience of a lifetime. Would love to shoot future projects in those magnificent locations.”
– Danny Zuker, Executive Producer, Modern Family
