Come along to the Business Essentials full-day workshop on 28 September


Screen Producers Australia in partnership with Screen Queensland and AFTRS is presenting the national Business Essentials full day workshop in Brisbane on Thursday 28 September.

Business Essentials covers the commercial framework in which producers must operate. The course is designed to provide you with the essential information to start, develop and grow a film and television business.

The course will feature special guest speaker Veronica Fury, Principal and Executive Producer at WildBear Entertainment. Veronica will discuss the facts of producing life in a Q&A session with SPA’s Owen Johnston. Additional speakers include Screen Producers Australia’s Owen Johnston and Mark Donaldson who will share their extensive legal and industrial policy expertise.

Topic areas include choosing the right business to set up with correct legal and accounting structures, through to complying with state and federal legislation and regulation, to managing a slate of projects, and understanding production accounting.

The Business Essentials program is vital for start ups while also serving as a refresher for established businesses. The course covers legal structures, tax incentives and compliance, business planning, managing cashflow, copyright and chain of title, rights negotiation, distribution and licensing agreements, cast and crew agreements, financial management of productions, fringes, and insurance.
