Tracey Vieira reappointed for another three-year term at Screen Queensland


MEDIA RELEASE [25 January 2017] The Board of Screen Queensland announced today the reappointment of Screen Queensland’s Chief Executive Officer, Tracey Vieira, whose contract has been renewed for another three-year term until February 2020.

Announcing the reappointment today, Screen Queensland Chair Linda Apelt said Ms Vieira has made a significant contribution to the Queensland screen industry.

‘I am very pleased to announce Ms Vieira’s reappointment as CEO,’ Ms Apelt said.

‘Tracey has achieved great success in her first three-year term as CEO and achieved positive outcomes across the screen sector which is testament to her leadership, knowledge-base, relationships and business acumen.

‘She has championed change in a fast-moving, global environment, and has focused on new and digital platforms and increased collaboration, community and communication within the sector.

‘We look forward to seeing continual growth for the State’s industry under Tracey’s leadership and our three-year Strategic Plan 2016-19 aiming to grow a dynamic and sustainable screen industry and ensuring local practitioners and businesses can focus on their strengths, ideas, and innovative ways to tell stories on screen to a global audience,’ said Ms Apelt.

Queensland’s screen sector has become a significant economic and cultural contributor to the State.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk commended Tracey for her achievements as CEO.

‘Tracey’s experience and determination have helped Queensland to secure a number of international and national productions,’ Ms Palaszczuk said.

‘I know Tracey will continue to be successful in her efforts to grow Queensland’s flourishing screen industry.’

Ms Vieira has put the spotlight on innovation and the upskilling of local industry and has led the industry onto new screen platforms partnering with YouTube, Stan, ABC iview, a VR partnership with SBS, as well as focusing on professional attachments and an exciting Early Career Program.

‘When I was appointed to the Screen Queensland CEO position in 2014, I pledged to foster a thriving screen industry not only for Queensland, but all of Australia.  I am proud of what we have achieved to-date and I look forward to a bright future for Queensland’s screen community,’ said Ms Vieira.

‘Over the last few years and in sync with the global movement for improving women’s status in our industry, I am championing Queensland’s movement for greater gender equality in screen both in front and behind the camera.  I also remain focused on improving diversity and greater inclusiveness in our industry.’

In the 2015-16 Financial Year, Screen Queensland supported 21 domestic productions and 10 international productions (including PFV attractions).  It achieved $203 million in Queensland Production Expenditure and created 3,154 jobs.  123 hours of screen content was produced in Queensland broken down to 97 hours in domestic content and 26 hours in international contact (not including PDV productions.)

Since 1 July 2016, domestic screen production in Queensland has reached a record competitive high with production investment and support by Screen Queensland.
