Regional Incentive

The Regional Incentive attracts production to regional Queensland. The program is aimed at increasing the level of production, industry skill level and employment as well as screen industry activity in regional Queensland.

Anyone shooting a screen story in a regional Queensland location for a minimum of 5 days is able to apply for the incentive which can be up to 10% of the auditable Queensland Regional Expenditure (QRE).

About the Regional Incentive

Screen Queensland’s Regional Incentive attracts production to regional Queensland (outside a 150k radius of the Brisbane or Gold Coast CBDs).

Its objectives are to:

  • Increase the level of production in regional Queensland.
  • Increase skills development and employment opportunities for regional Queenslanders working in the screen sector.
  • Increase business activity for regional Queensland based companies.

Applicants can apply for up to 10% of auditable Queensland Regional Expenditure (QRE).

Eligible QRE is considered:

  • jobs where those people have been residents of a regional area for at least 6 months prior to application, and
  • expenditure with suppliers/businesses based in those regional areas.

Funding is in the form of a grant, payable on delivery of a full audit of expenditure and acquittal of contracted delivery items.

Criteria (what we’re looking for?)

When assessing your proposal we’ll use the below criteria.

  • Is it a good story?
  • Is it well-told and likely to excite an audience?
  • Do the team have a clear idea of who their audience is and how to reach them?
  • Is the budget appropriate for the kind of project and the size of the audience it will reach?
  • Has the team got a good reputation for delivering what it says it will and the skills to make this happen?
  • How will this impact the careers of regional Queensland talent and the regional Queensland screen sector more broadly? How will it:
    • Increase the level of production in regional Queensland.
    • Increase skills development and employment opportunities for regional Queenslanders working in the screen sector.
    • Increase business activity for regional Queensland based companies?
Eligability (who can apply?)

ANYONE who is shooting a screen story in regional Queensland and will use a regional location for a minimum of five days can apply for the Regional Incentive.

To be eligable you will also require:

  • The rights to the story – tick the box
  • option agreement and/or the approval of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander owners of the story
  • writers/key creative agreement
  • supporting documents for the finance plan incl. Provisional certificate for projects applying for the Producer Offset, completion guarantee etc.
Preparing your application

You will need to submit your application via smarty grants. The application will ask for:

  • a Screen Australia A-Z Budget showing itemised QRE spend as a separate column.
  • a schedule highlighting number of shoot days in regional Queensland.
  • an application proposal, including:
    • a one page synopsis, including details of the project and market interest
    • benefits to the Queensland regional area, including number of jobs created and total amount spent
    • a list of Queensland regional locations
    • details of all creatives, crew, suppliers/businesses to be engaged by the production in regional Queensland
    • details of the applicant’s track record and their ability to deliver the project
    • an outline of the potential publicity opportunities demonstrating the regional impact of your production (should your application be successful Screen Queensland will work with you to contractually formalise the publicity plan).
