EVENT DETAILS

Date and time: Tuesday 17 November, 10am – 12pm

Location: Auditorium 2, State Library of Queensland, South Bank

Cost: Free

Screen Queensland and Ludo Studio invite screen practitioners behind-the-scenes of one of the most fascinating aspects of character creation: bringing them to life. Exploring the intersection of traditional puppetry, creature design, motion capture and visual effects, this special event will unpack how creative craft and cutting-edge technology combined to take Allen from initial concept to the screen.

Join us and a team of artists and creatives from the upcoming feature film as we chart Allen’s creation from initial development and physical puppet creation through performance and digital integration to set his final form on the silver screen. Hear from the designers behind each creative element—including Daley Pearson (Creator, Co-Writer, Co-Director, Ludo Studio), Steve Boyle (Formation Effects), Tim Schultz (Proxi VP), Jordan McInnes (Alt.VFX) and Livia Hanich (Post-Production Producer)—about the decisions, technical processes, challenges and collaborative workflows involved in bringing a complex character to life.

Discover the A-Z of character development, cross-disciplinary collaboration, emerging technologies and production workflows which you can apply to your own practice in this transparent and open forum for creatives, producers and technical practitioners working across screen production.

ABOUT THE PANELLISTS

Daley Pearson is a multi-Emmy and BAFTA Award-winning writer, director and producer, and co-founder of Ludo Studio, the Brisbane-based Australian production company behind Bluey. Together with Charlie Aspinwall and the team at Ludo, Pearson has helped build Ludo into one of Australia’s leading independent production studios, working across animation, live action, drama, comedy and feature film. In 2024, Ludo Studio was named to TIME’s annual list of the 100 Most Influential Companies in the world.

Pearson serves as executive producer of Bluey, which was the most-streamed title in the U.S. in both 2024 and 2025, generating more than 100 billion viewing minutes across the two years on Disney+, according to Nielsen. He is also an executive producer of the upcoming Bluey feature film, produced by Ludo Studio in collaboration with BBC Studios and set for worldwide theatrical release through Walt Disney Studios in 2027. As Bluey has grown into a global entertainment brand, Pearson, Aspinwall and the team at Ludo have helped guide its creative expansion beyond the series, working closely with BBC Studios and its partners across film, publishing, consumer products, live entertainment and new experiences.

Pearson was executive producer of Ludo’s acclaimed Stan Original series Thou Shalt Not Steal and Robbie Hood for SBS, and co-created The Strange Chores for ABC with Aspinwall. Thou Shalt Not Steal celebrated its world premiere at the 49th Toronto International Film Festival, while Robbie Hood was described by The Sydney Morning Herald as “the best TV you’ll see this year.”

Pearson created and directed Ludo’s upcoming Netflix feature Allen, which he co-wrote with Sophie Miller and co-directed with Jeffrey Walker, and executive produces alongside Aspinwall—set for release in November. He also created and wrote the original concept screenplay that became A24’s breakout horror feature Talk to Me. Pearson also appeared opposite Chris Hemsworth and Jeff Goldblum as Thor’s roommate Darryl in Taika Waititi’s Team Thor shorts for Marvel Studios.

Jordan McInnes is a VFX Supervisor at Alt.VFX, where over 12 years he has worked across feature film, television and advertising for some of the world’s leading studios and Australia’s best-known brands.

Since joining Alt.VFX, McInnes has made a habit of getting involved in every part of production he can, building close partnerships with the animation team and departments across the pipeline while constantly expanding his skill set. Starting at Alt.VFX as a Rigging TD in the animation department, he grew into the role of CG Supervisor, managing asset teams and solving technical problems, before becoming the studio’s VFX Supervisor on Christy and then Allen.

David Michôd’s Christy marked his first major milestone in the role, laying the groundwork for what came next. McInnes then served as Alt’s VFX Supervisor on Ludo Studio’s upcoming Netflix feature Allen, co-directed by Daley Pearson and Jeffrey Walker. It is the largest project in Alt.VFX’s history. Throughout post-production, he worked closely with Pearson, helping bring the film’s vision to the screen through VFX.

His other film credits include Penguin Bloom, Jane Campion’s Academy Award-winning The Power of the Dog and True Spirit. His television work spans all three seasons of La Brea, Netflix’s live-action Yu Yu Hakusho, Alice in Borderland S3 and Nine Perfect Strangers. Alongside his long-form work, McInnes has contributed to campaigns for many of Australia’s most recognisable brands, including Qantas, Telstra, ANZ, NAB, St.George, Amazon, Ford, Kia, David Jones, Asahi, Aldi, Pokémon, Village Roadshow Theme Parks and many more.
