Gameloft Brisbane is facilitating a paid 6-month Game Artist Intern opportunity. Supported through Screen Queensland’s Digital Games Incentive, the placement offers a chance to work under the talented design directors and senior artists of this award-winning studio, helping to bring their latest game’s artistic vision to life while gaining valuable hands-on experience. 

Join a global games studio that employs over 100 local games developers and has worked on a wide variety of genres and properties, including Carmen Sandiego, The Oregon Trail and My Little Pony: Mane Merge.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

As an Game Artist Intern, you’ll play an integral role in the game development process, actively contributing to the creation and refinement of visual assets, environments and character designs. Working under the guidance of our design directors and closely with senior artists, you’ll help bring the game’s artistic vision to life while gaining valuable hands-on experience in concept art, asset creation and polishing in-game visuals.

Responsibilities

As a Game Artist Intern, you will:

  • assist in creating 2D or 3D game assets such as props, environments, and textures
  • support the art team with concept sketches, mood boards, and visual research
  • help organise and maintain art assets within the game engine
  • receive and apply feedback to improve and refine artwork
  • participate in playtests and provide input on visual presentation.

Qualifications

The successful applicant will have:

  • the ability to work well within a team and effectively communicate artistic ideas
  • a strong portfolio showcasing your artistic skills, creativity, and understanding of game art styles
  • completed or currently pursuing a degree in Game Art, Illustration, 3D Art, or a related field
  • a strong passion for game art, with a keen eye for detail and composition
  • familiarity with industry-standard art tools such as Photoshop, Blender, Maya, or Substance Painter
  • basic knowledge of game engines (preferably Unreal Engine or Unity)
  • strong creative and problem-solving abilities.
