Get real, hands-on experience in a games studio through one of four paid internship opportunities with Gameloft Brisbane: Engine Programmer, QA Tester, Animator and Game Designer.
With support through Screen Queensland’s Digital Games Incentive, the interns will work alongside Gameloft Brisbane’s teams, contribute to real projects and get a feel for how games are actually made, day to day.
Open to emerging Queensland developers, the program provides mentorship, structured learning, and regular feedback to help participants grow their skills and confidence.

Engine Programmer Intern
As an Engine Programmer Intern, you will work closely with experienced engineers to develop and optimise the core systems, tools and pipelines that power Gameloft Brisbane’s games. Collaborate closely with designers, artists, animators and other engineers, tackle bugs, refine code through reviews and leave your mark on cutting-edge projects while sharpening your programming skills. This is a hands-on opportunity to gain real-world experience in game engine architecture and development.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Engine Programmer Intern will:
- assist in developing/maintaining systems and tools owned by the core engine team
- write clean, efficient and maintainable C/C++ code
- help optimise performance of tools and pipelines for project teams
- debug and resolve engine-level issues and bottlenecks
- collaborate with programmers, technical artists and designers
- contribute to tools and pipelines that improve team productivity
- participate in code reviews and technical discussions.
QUALIFICATIONS
Successful applicants will:
- have recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
- have strong programming skills in C++ (or similar systems-level language)
- understand data structures, algorithms and memory management
- be familiar with linear algebra (vectors, matrices) and 3D math concepts
- have good problem solving and debugging skills
- be able to work in a team environment
- have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Game Designer Intern
As a Game Designer Intern, you’ll play an integral role in the game development process, actively contributing to the design and refinement of gameplay mechanics, levels and systems. Working closely with designers, artists and engineers, you’ll help bring engaging features to life while gaining valuable hands-on experience in balancing gameplay, creating documentation and prototyping ideas.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Game Designer Intern will:
- assist in designing and refining game mechanics, levels, quests and gameplay systems
- collaborate closely with artists, programmers and other designers to bring creative ideas to life
- playtest and provide feedback on features, quests and levels to ensure fun, balance and flow
- create and maintain design documentation, detailing gameplay features, mechanics, quests and systems
- help with the prototyping of new gameplay ideas and features
- support the design team in balancing game features and systems to achieve desired player experiences.
QUALIFICATIONS
Successful applicants will:
- have a strong portfolio that highlights their design skills, thought process and key decision-making abilities within game design
- have completed a degree in Game Design, Interactive Media, or a related field
- have a strong passion for game design, with a keen understanding of player experience and engagement
- be familiar with game design principles such as pacing, balance and reward systems
- have basic knowledge of game engines
- have strong creative and problem-solving abilities
- be able to work well within a team and communicate design ideas effectively.

Animator Intern
As an Animator Intern, you will work closely with experienced animators to create and refine animations that bring Gameloft Brisbane’s games to life. You’ll collaborate with animation leads, technical animators, designers and artists to support the development of high-quality character, object and environmental animations.
You will participate in animation reviews, contribute to feedback discussions and help ensure animations align with the game’s overall style and direction. Along the way, you’ll build your skills, gain hands-on experience in a production environment and develop a strong foundation in professional game animation workflows.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Animator Intern will:
- develop 3D animations for game characters, objects and environments
- collaborate with the Animation Lead to ensure alignment with the game’s visual style and direction
- continuously develop skills through collaboration with the Animation team
- participate in animation reviews and team discussions
- work closely with Technical Animators, Character Artists and Designers.
QUALIFICATIONS
Successful applicants will:
- have a Bachelor’s degree in Animation, Game Design or a related field
- have a strong portfolio demonstrating 3D animation skills, including character animation
- be proficient in industry-standard 3D animation software such as Maya
- be able to work collaboratively and take direction from senior team members
- have excellent attention to detail
- have strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
- be passionate about video games and animation
Bonus points: have experience with Unreal Engine (not a requirement)

QA Tester Intern
As a QA Tester Intern, you will play an important role in supporting the quality and functionality of Gameloft Brisbane’s premium games within an embedded QA, agile development environment. You’ll assist with executing test plans, identifying and documenting issues, and working closely with the development team to help maintain high-quality standards.
This is a great opportunity to build hands-on experience, develop your testing skills and contribute to the success of our upcoming titles—perfect for someone with a passion for games and a strong eye for detail.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The QA Tester Intern will:
- execute test plans for studio projects, prioritising the identification and documentation of defects
- collaborate closely with the development team to communicate and efficiently resolve identified issues
- contribute to the management of the Bug Database, prioritising critical path issues and generating detailed QA reports
- coordinate cross-platform game testing during development to ensure comprehensive coverage
- contribute to the improvement of QA processes, plans and documentation, actively participating in team activities and training initiatives.

- have recently completed a degree in Games Development/Game Design, Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related field
- have strong attention to detail and analytical skills
- display excellent communication and collaboration abilities
- have familiarity with bug tracking systems and testing methodologies
