Screen Queensland’s Games Residency is a year-long program for early-career game developers, focused on developing the skills and knowledge required to develop new games and games studios.
The first of its kind in Australia, the residency program is run in partnership with Workforce Australia Self-Employment Assistance provider Birdifi Bridge, with participants provided with co-working space, access to leading industry experts, business mentoring and income support.
About David
David began his career in Hollywood visual effects before going independent to create trailers for video games such as Hell Let Loose. This work led to him being hired at Epic Games to teach VFX veterans Realtime Filmmaking through the Unreal Fellowship. Since then, he has run a successful business bringing that same expertise to others in the form of online courses. Now, he has transitioned into full-time game development as part of the Screen Queensland Residency program.
Primary skillset: Unreal game development
Residency Goals
I am excited to have the opportunity to work alongside and network with other game developers as we build our projects and skills. My career experience means I have a lot to offer and even more to learn and I believe the Screen Queensland Games Residency is the perfect place to do it.
Residency Project
The Last Crusade is an action-focused strategy game that replaces the slower analytical tropes of the RTS genre with instinctual and exciting gameplay. Each ‘run’ you must explore and scavenge the world, with a small army of troops that are never replenished, as you attempt to retake a continent lost in an ancient war. After a year of development The Last Crusade is currently in the prototype stage where the focus is on finding the fun in the moment to moment gameplay.
