YouTube to feature new Queensland pop culture fashion series

A new YouTube series featuring pop culture fashion with a twist will be produced in Queensland with support from Screen Queensland in partnership with YouTube.

Popular Brisbane-based fashion Vlogger Katie Orlowski will host the new series, Pop Culture Inspired Fashion, to be produced for her popular YouTube channel by Producer Adam Fowler and Executive Producer Steven Geddes (Light and Shade Media).

Pop Culture Inspired Fashion is the inaugural recipient of Screen Queensland’s new partnership with YouTube with funding of $150,000,” said Screen Queensland CEO Tracey Vieira.

“The series examines fashion through the lens of social history with Katie showing fans of cult films how to dress like their favourite on-screen characters by blending retro aesthetics with present day fashion sensibilities,” Ms Vieira said.

Premier and Arts Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk said the project was part of the Queensland Government’s Create Queensland partnership with YouTube.

“Create Queensland aims to stimulate the next generation of Queensland’s creative entrepreneurs,” Ms Palaszczuk said.

“The partnership with YouTube is an investment in new media and digital innovation.”

Ms Vieira said Katie would interview costume designers, take the audience on shopping trips at Brisbane’s second hand shops and demonstrate how to put together each unique look.

“The Screen Queensland partnership with YouTube is to encourage innovative approaches to collaborations between YouTube creators and channel owners, and traditional screen professionals,” Ms Vieira said.

Pop Culture Inspired Fashion is an ideal opportunity to expand on Katie’s loyal fan base and generate Queensland content that resonates with viewers.”

“Katie’s YouTube channel has already amassed over 169k subscribers and her videos have garnered over 10 million views,” Ms Vieira said.

Launched in 2016, the Screen Queensland partnership with YouTube pairs Queensland producers with a YouTube content maker to collaborate on a new YouTube series.

Pop Culture Inspired Fashion will be available on YouTube later in 2017.
