QUEENSLAND – AUSTRALIA'S FILM-FRIENDLY STATE

The sunshine state boasts some of Australia's best beaches, bushlands, deserts, jungles, mountains and tropical islands. There is also a vast array of architectural options, from heritage architecture to contemporary cityscapes across rural and urban environments.

Queensland shines on screen as its own destination, but also conveniently doubles for many parts of the world, including California, Hawaii, Texas, Florida, Louisiana, Mexico, Vietnam and The Bahamas. Previous productions include Balls Up, with Queensland doubling for South America, Thailand in Thirteen Lives and the Galapagos Islands for Eden, Bali in Ticket to Paradise, London in The Portable Door, San Francisco for San Andreas, Tokyo in Pacific Rim Uprising and Washington State for Good Cop/Bad Cop.

To help producers take advantage of Queensland's vast and diverse landscapes, and bring the many economic and employment benefits to more communities across the state, Screen Queensland facilitates the Film Friendly Pathways Program which helps to streamline support and approval processes for production companies.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A FILM-FRIENDLY COUNCIL

Film-friendly councils work with Screen Queensland to make filming in their region easier for production houses, filmmakers and crews.

Film-friendly councils offer:

  • an appointed liaison from the local council to help film in the region
  • recent and searchable location images tagged to each region in the Screen Queensland Location Gallery
  • low or no-fee permit applications for filming
  • adoption of standardised and streamlined permit application forms for filming
  • logistical advice and assistance to productions
  • access to key locations under each council’s jurisdiction.

HOW TO JOIN THE FILM-FRIENDLY PATHWAYS PROGRAM

The Film-Friendly Pathways Program is managed by Screen Queensland's attraction and locations team. The program helps councils across Queensland to capitalise on the economic impact of the screen industry, by helping them to promote their locations, work with filmmakers and generally look after production teams.
