Applications now open for the Game Development and Marketing Investment Program 2019

The Queensland Government via Screen Queensland (SQ) is calling out for Game Development and Marketing Investment applications as it continues to support Queensland-made games.

The SQ Game Development and Marketing Investment program holds two rounds per year with the first call out for 2019 opening today and with applications closing 5.00pm AEST Friday 1 March 2019.

“Queensland is home to a lucrative and competitive games industry and our local games creators are scoring big points in the global marketplace” said Screen Queensland CEO Tracey Vieira.

“The SQ Game Development and Marketing Investment program was launched in February last year to support the growth of Queensland’s games sector and we received an overwhelmingly large number of competitive applications.

“This program invests in local games developers to help their businesses and IP grow and fosters the development of a creative, innovative and commercially successful industry.

“There were 11 funding recipients in 2018 which included Lamington Games’ David Kilford, a resident of sqhub, who is going from success to success with his game Super Drop Land.

“David has received global recognition featuring on Google Play and a number of features on the Apple App store across Japan, the USA, China and Australia and is a real success story from last year,” Ms Vieira said.

Lamington Games’ Super Drop Land  has been released in iOS and Android and has achieved over 500,000 downloads to date, majorly in China and Japan.

David Kilford was invited to attend Google Playtime – an exclusive, invitation-only event for Google Play apps and games developers in Singapore – at the end of 2018.

SQ further supports local games developers through Travel and Marketing support with applications currently open for games practitioners wishing to attend the Games Development Conference, a premier games event being held in San Francisco in March this year.

“We look forward to receiving submissions for this first round from established practitioners and discovering new talent coming out of universities, sqhub and home living rooms and garages too.”
