At this year’s Myriad Festival – Australia’s premier technology and innovation event – meet some talented and creative people from the Queensland screen industry.

About Myriad Festival 2018

Once a year, the world’s most influential thinkers, entrepreneurs, and innovators gather in Queensland for Myriad.  Myriad is a celebration of creativity and innovation, bringing some of the world’s greatest thought leaders to Queensland, and showcasing local innovators.

This year’s event, from 16–18 May 2018 in Brisbane, will run across seven themes that will explore the future of food, health, culture, play, work, cities, and money,

Myriad is a fantastic opportunity for Australian startups, innovators, and entrepreneurs to come and enjoy all Queensland has to offer, while connecting with some of the worlds’ innovation thought leaders.

This is the second year SQ has taken part in the Myriad Festival. Myriad 2018 is presented in strategic partnership with the Queensland Government’s Advance Queensland initiative.

Thursday 17 May

4.00pm – 4.30pm – Queensland Screen Industry Speakers Kim Allom (Studio Manager, Defiant Development), Nadine Bates (CEO and Co-founder of Like a Photon Creative) and Caitlin Boucher (sqhub Community Manager) on the Soapbox Stage.

About our Queensland Screen Industry Speakers

Kim Allom is the Studio Manager of Brisbane based game developer, Defiant Development. Defiant has often been the case study of how an Australian indie team makes world class games. Kim is also a co-founder of Blushbox Collective – a group of game development enthusiasts that aim to meaningfully explore, promote and rapidly prototype love and sexuality focused video games. Kim was awarded the Industry Champion accolade at last year’s Australian Game Developer Awards, a Queensland Young Achiever of the Year award for Online Achievement and is the first recipient of the Screen Queensland Mentorship Grant.

Nadine Bates is the CEO and co-founder of Like a Photon Creative. As well as creating internationally award-winning television programs for the likes of Disney, Sesame Street and Nickelodeon, and a slate of animated feature films for NBC Universal, Nadine and her team are also about to launch a phenomenal new kids literacy app called Kindergo.

Caitlin Boucher is the Community Manager at sqhub – a new shared working space in Teneriffe and the first in Queensland set up exclusively for start-ups in the screen and games industry.

Funded by the Queensland Government through Screen Queensland, sqhub helps to connect Queensland talented creatives and innovative screen businesses from across all parts of the screen industry, by providing facilities, a co-working space, an incubator and an events’ program to help develop and grow successful projects and businesses.

Caitlin has a background in marketing, communications and events, with much of her career spent in agriculture before moving to the screen industry to help foster and strengthen the community through the sqhub.

Caitlin is passionate about screen stories and games, and when she is not working with Screen Queensland at sqhub she drives female participation in traditionally male industries, helping women to get a seat at the decision-making table. She is a Board member of Queensland Rural, Regional and Remote Women’s Network and a former Board member for Australian Women in Agriculture and Secretary for the National Rural Press Club.

Tim Schultz has a 25-year history creating world-class video effects for feature films, television series and advertising, Cutting Edge has the technical and creative grounding that has produced powerful immersive experiences. From 360 video to room scale VR and interactive gamified solutions, Cutting Edge have been delivering augmented reality & virtual reality solutions for clients across advertising, marketing, urban planning & theme park entertainment. Cutting Edge is an end-to-end immersive content production company with capabilities spanning VR and AR production, high-end VFX, sound, and post-production. The team collaborates across their state-of-the-art studios in Brisbane, Sydney, and Tokyo delivering high-end solutions at the leading-edge of augmented reality and virtual realities.

Sarah Mak is the managing director and co-founder of TheStoryBoxes, a storytelling film studio dedicated to driving change through real stories. In addition, Sarah is merging the world of film, technology and social impact through her latest venture as co-founder and CEO of Folktale. She’ll be speaking to these intersections and the journey ahead.

David Kilford is the fulltime game designer, programmer and sometimes artist of Lamington Games. Prior to starting Lamington, David worked as both a Research and Development Programmer, and then later as a Gameplay Programmer on the Prototyping Team at Halfbrick, creators of Fruit Ninja. David has also worked at Seethrough Studios, an indie games studio, two time winners of the Freeplay ‘Best Narrative Award’, and at Vantage Interactive, a Serious Games and digital media business.
