New $12M film and television studio to bolster Queensland screen industry

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced a new film and television production studio will be established in Brisbane.

The Premier made the announcement in Hollywood as part of her trade mission to the United States and said the $12 million funding commitment would see the establishment of a fit-for-purpose studio for small film and television productions, in yet another win for the local screen industry.

“Queensland’s screen industry is thriving, and my Government’s support for this new studio will bring a new wave of investment in the creative jobs of the future,” the Premier said.

“Queensland is recognised as a production paradise and film-friendly state, and we are known internationally for our diverse and unrivalled natural locations, strong financial incentives, world-class facilities and award-winning talent and crew.”

During consultation on the Advance Queensland Screen Industry 10-Year Roadmap and Action Plan, due to be released shortly, screen practitioners identified a need for new infrastructure to help the local screen industry remain competitive.

“We have listened to that feedback and are proud to be able to help support a resilient and innovative Queensland screen industry with this investment,” the Premier said.

“We are excited to be able to provide a space for both established and up-and-coming content producers to work and collaborate.”

The location of the new studio and initial tenants are expected to be announced in the new financial year.

On Tuesday the Premier met key executives from major screen industry players including Netflix, Technicolour, Disney, and renowned Brisbane-based production house Hoodlum.
