ABOUT THE PANELLISTS

As Head of Scripted – Streaming and Broadcast, Andy Ryan is responsible for the development and production of all scripted originals across streaming service Stan, linear broadcaster 9Network, and BVOD streaming service 9Now. Prior to this expanded role he had been Head of Drama for Nine since 2011. For Stan and 9Network, Andy has overseen some of Australia’s most iconic and internationally successful drama series, ranging from McLeod’s Daughters, Doctor Doctor, and No Activity, to the multi award winning Underbelly franchise, Scrublands and the upcoming Stan Original The F Ward. In the unscripted realm, he was EP on the Stan Original dating series Love Triangle. Andy started his television career as a scriptwriter on All Saints. He is passionate about working with local creatives to bring the finest Australian stories to the widest possible audience here and abroad. 

Joshua Longhurst is the Scripted Development Executive at Foxtel, where he works across the development of original drama and comedy series for Foxtel and BINGE. At Foxtel, Joshua has worked on the recently released series Run. Previously, Joshua was a Development Producer at See-Saw Films, where he collaborated with filmmaker Garth Davis across his development slate. In 2020, Joshua was named a Screen Producers Australia Ones to Watch participant and was also selected for the Screen NSW Producer Program. 

Sophia Mogford is Head of Scripted and Comedy at Paramount Australia and New Zealand (ANZ), overseeing acclaimed titles including The Amazing Race AustraliaThe ListFakeOne NightPlaying Gracie Darling, and other premium content across Network 10 and Paramount+ platforms. Since joining Paramount ANZ in October 2022 as Executive Producer for Drama and Comedy, Sophia has built an impressive portfolio featuring Ghosts AustraliaAppleton Ladies Potato RacePaper Dollsthe soon-to-be released Two Years Later, and comedies Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Gen and Sam Pang Tonight. She has also pioneered innovative partnership productions including Betoota Advocate Presents and The Inspired Unemployed [Impractical] Jokers. Prior to Paramount, Sophia served as Head of Entertainment at Eureka Productions for seven years, where she was the leading creative executive. Throughout her career, Sophia has demonstrated expertise across the complete television production spectrum—from development to delivery—spanning scripted series and features, unscripted comedy, international formats, music and chat shows, travel and adventure programming, formatted studio shows, live programming and event television across both Australian and UK markets. Her work has earned multiple prestigious accolades, including BAFTA, Telly Awards, AACTA, and Logie wins and nominations. Sophia has managed projects across all major programming platforms and genres. Bec Pini is a seasoned leader in brand, marketing and communications with over 30 years’ experience across television, film and creative industries. She founded M4M in 2003, delivering integrated campaigns for national and global clients in entertainment, arts, education, healthcare, retail, AI and social impact. Bec is a Board Trustee of Queensland Performing Arts Centre, Deputy Chair of Creative Brisbane Collab. and a Non-Executive Director of The Allison Baden-Clay Foundation, leading campaigns on coercive control and respectful relationships. Her career includes roles at Network Ten, Sony Pictures, and Columbia TriStar, and long-term consulting for Roadshow Films, representing major studios and supporting Australian screen talent. Her experience also extends to film festivals and awards including Gold Coast Film Festival, Brisbane International Film Festival, Australian International Movie Convention and Australia Pacific Screen Awards. 

Jason Behan is a media executive with over 20 years of experience in content acquisition, distribution, and monetisation across film, television, and digital platforms. He has held senior roles at Beyond, Universal Pictures Australia, and Totem Network, working across genres from feature film to factual, children’s, and anime. Jason is the founder of Apocalypso, a media monetisation and distribution advisory built for the new era. Apocalypso helps producers navigate today’s chaotic content landscape with smart strategy, global reach, and a transparent, creator-first approach — ensuring content doesn’t just get seen, but gets paid. 

For over 20 years, Marc Wooldridge held various senior marketing and distribution roles within 20th Century Fox International, including ten years as the Managing Director for the Theatrical division overseeing Australasia.  In 2020, Marc founded Maslow Entertainment, a Sydney based, theatrically focused film distribution company.  Maslow is focused on identifying original and compelling Australian feature films with a clear focus on its audience and a strong marketing hook. Led by a ‘discovery to distribution’ approach, Marc encourages early and collaborative relationships with local filmmakers to help align their creative vision with the best commercial outcomes throughout the life cycle of each film.  To date, Maslow has released over 35 films theatrically, including 16 Australian features; among them, the break-out horrors Talk To Me and Late Night With the Devil, the hit Camino inspired film, The Way My Way, the spellbinding First Nations horror, The Moogai, the compelling political thriller The Correspondent and the beautifully animated feature The Pout-Pout Fish.  

Petrina Hull is an accomplished Producer with over 15 years of experience and a longtime collaborator of George Miller. Petrina has led central roles on Academy and BAFTA-Award-winning successes MAD MAX: FURY ROAD and HAPPY FEET, along with THREE THOUSAND YEARS OF LONGING, and most recently FURIOSA. As the Head of Development and Acquisitions at OEE, she brings great insight into commercial genre and family entertainment and is also a writer/producer under Sensuble Productions.

ABOUT THE PANELLISTS

Brett Popplewell is an Emmy and AACTA–nominated producer and senior creative executive with more than 30 years’ experience delivering premium television and feature film across Australia, the U.S., and international markets. With over 800 hours of high-end scripted content and more than A$800 million in production value, he has partnered with every major Australian commissioner and played a pivotal role in attracting major U.S. and UK productions to Australia. His acclaimed credits include Heartbreak High, Wentworth, Salem’s Lot, The Starter Wife, and the AFI Award–winning Bastard Boys, which he co-created and produced, alongside titles such as Water Rats, The Alice, Bait 3D, and The Man from Snowy River II. Since joining Fremantle in 2016, Brett has served as Head of Production (Drama) and, from 2021, Head of Drama for Australia and New Zealand, overseeing scripted strategy and development across the region. His Fremantle credits include Hoges, Picnic at Hanging Rock, Significant Others, Rock Island Mysteries, and Bay of Fires. He has also collaborated at the highest levels internationally, co-producing James Cameron’s Sanctum, producing Deepsea Challenge 3D for James Cameron and National Geographic, and producing the BBC miniseries Banished. Known for combining creative ambition with operational excellence, Brett consistently delivers globally resonant stories at scale with lasting cultural impact.

Coco Garner Davis is a lawyer and producer at Flying Bark Productions. She spearheads the live action, ‘grown-up’ arm After Bark, managing a slate of film and television projects in varying stages of development and production.  

AACTA Nominee Louise Schultze started at Palace Films and Palace Cinemas in ’98, in Marketing, building the first cinema movie database in Australia, and working on classic Australian films like Yolngu BoyChopper and Lantana. From 2016, Louise has written and directed for Jerry Lewis, Colin Mochrie, Brad Sherwood and Anupam Kher. She has written, directed and produced a diverse range of genres, from action, including YIP Man Legacy, a Sundance 2025–premiered crime documentary, Never Get Busted, to children’s interactive series on the Oz Kids Network, including the first live talking bear animated show. Louise is also currently producing Kriv Stenders’ next major feature film thriller, Screaming Peak

Wooden Horse Director and Joint CEO Richard Finlayson has worked in television production and executive roles for over 20 years. Prior to starting Wooden Horse with Jude Troy in 2019, he was the Director of Television at the ABC, commissioning award-winning programming including Glitch, Nowhere Boys, Cleverman, Utopia and Hard Quiz.Earlier, Richard wasCOO at SBS and Director of Programme Acquisitions at XYZ Entertainment (joint venture of Foxtel and Austar).  At Wooden Horse, Richard has produced the feature documentary The Cape,which premiered in competition at the 70th Annual Sydney Film Festival before its national release on Stan. He produced Rose Gold for the ABC, a feature documentary charting the Australian Boomers first ever medal at the 2020 Olympics, which premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival before a successful theatrical run. Richard was an executive producer on award winning drama series The Clearing for Disney+ globally, starring Teresa Palmer, Miranda Otto and Guy Pearce, and two seasons of the reimagining of Mother and Son for the ABC starring comedians Matt Okine and Denise Scott. Richard also worked with Marc Fennell to develop factual series Stuff the British Stole for ABC and CBC (Canada), partnering with WildBear Entertainment as Executive Producer.

North Queensland has a long history of independent storytelling and alternative thinking. Indie features and impact documentaries are increasingly shaping the global conversation. This panel explores how practitioners can take their ideas from the region to the world stage, covering funding, production and international reach. 

ABOUT THE PANELLISTS

Ivan O’Mahoney is a critically acclaimed documentary filmmaker. His company In Films produced films like Unbreakable: The Jelena Dokic Story, Folau, Revelation, The Queen & Zak Grieve, Firestarter: The Story of Bangarra, Matilda & Me and Surviving Malka Leifer.  In Films’ latest documentary Sentient, justhad its world premiere at Sundance. Ivan’s work has been awarded AACTAs, Walkleys, Logies, ADGs and Screen Producer Awards. International accolades include the Rose d’Or, the Golden Nymph, the Prix Europa, Japan Prize and RFK Journalism Award. He switched from law to journalism in 2000, first working at CNN Atlanta and later in London for BBC. In 2008, he moved to Australia with his (Australian) wife Tash and two sons. They live in Noosa. He is currently directing Australian Artist, a film about Ken Done.

Mitch Stanley is a Wiradjuri producer who started his producing career with ABC3 Kid’s show, Move It Mob Style, then four series of Colour Theory with Richard Bell and Tony Albert. He wrote and produced Servant or Slave, produced Warwick Thornton’s documentary television series, The Beach, and produced the first Indigenous official co-production between Australia and New Zealand, We Are Still Here, which opened the Sydney Film Festival, was selected for the Toronto International Film Festival and went on to win the Best Narrative Feature film at ImagineNative Film Festival. Mitch recently produced societal thriller and psychological horror, The Moogai with Director Jon Bell and Causeway Films (The Babadook, Talk To Me) and was officially selected for competition in the Midnight Section of the prestigious Sundance Film Festival for 2024, and won the audience award for Best Australian Feature at the Sydney Film Festival in 2024, and CinefestOz’s Best Australian Feature Film with a $100k cash prize.

Tristan Barr is a multi-award-winning filmmaker named by The New York Times as one of five genre directors to watch. His debut feature Watch the Sunset made Australian cinema history as the first single-take feature to receive a theatrical release and later became a STAN Original. He has since produced and directed multiple features with strong festival presence — including SXSW, Fantasia, Cannes Frontières, and the Venice Film Festival — alongside notable commercial success. His micro-budget thriller Subject reached #1 on Shudder and Screambox, while the Kansas City–shot feature Head Count became a Top 10 title on Netflix. Tristan’s latest film, Seven Snipers, stars Tim Roth, Radha Mitchell, Ryan Kwanten, and Ioan Gruffudd, has pre-sold to over 15 international territories, and is scheduled for theatrical release in April 2026. He is also producing two feature films premiering at SXSW 2026, continuing his focus on elevated genre filmmaking with global reach.

ABOUT THE PANELLISTS

Kris Mrksa is one of Australia’s leading screenwriters, working on projects between Australia and the UK. Kris’ latest project, Granite, which he adapted from the novel Ryan David Jahn’s The Dispatcher, is currently in production with Werner Films and 60Forty Films for Apple TV+. Prior to this, Kris created and wrote the mini-series Protection, for New Pictures in the UK. Kris created, wrote and was the Executive Producer on No Escape, a seven-part series produced by New Pictures for Paramount+ adapted from the novel The Blue by Lucy Clarke which began streaming in May 2023.  Kris created and wrote the true crime television drama series White House Farm for New Pictures, broadcast on ITV in the UK. New Pictures also produced, for BBC and Netflix in 2018, Kris’ original supernatural thriller series Requiem with Kris also being an Executive Producer.  In his sixteen-year career as a writer and script editor, Kris Mrksa has won numerous prizes and awards including two AFIs, three AWGIEs and the prestigious Foxtel Fellowship. He has written for many prime-time TV series including The Secret Life Of UsPacked to the RaftersRush and East West 101 and was a key part of the team that developed and wrote the hit series Underbelly 2: A Tale of Two Cities and Underbelly 3: The Golden Mile.  Kris was also the script editor on the SBS comedy series Wilfred, now successfully adapted for US television.  In 2006 Kris co-wrote the critically acclaimed tele-movie The King, based on the life of Graham Kennedy, which won three AFI’s and a Logie. Kris adapted and wrote for the television version of Christos Tsiolkas’ bestselling novel The Slap, which won numerous awards and was nominated for a BAFTA and an International Emmy. Kris wrote the acclaimed mini-series Devil’s Dust, based on the true story of Bernie Banton and the James Hardie asbestos tragedy. Kris is currently developing new tv series for New Regency and Kudos in the UK, Bad Robot in the States, and a series with Wooden Horse for STAN. 

Lucas Taylor is a multiple AWGIE and SPA award-winning writer and director. The Creator, Executive Producer and Head Writer of the critically acclaimed Black Snow, a six-part drama series airing on Stan and Sundance Now launched in 2023 and has now sold to multiple territories and secured 7 x AACTA Award Nominations including Best Screenplay and Best Drama. Lucas is also the Creator, Executive Producer and Head Writer of In Limbo, a six-part comedy drama for the ABC, which premiered in 2023. His previous television credits include Harrow (ABC), Vikings: Athelstan’s Journal (History), Secrets & Lies (Ten), Texas Rising: The Lost Soldier (History) and The Strange Calls (ABC). In 2019 Lucas was the winner of the John Hinde Award for excellence in Science Fiction writing for his virtual reality feature film Eleven Eleven. Created for NBCUniversal Studios, Eleven Eleven premiered at the South by Southwest Film Festival and was part of the official program at the Venice International Film Festival. In 2017 Lucas’s virtual reality documentary Inside Manus (SBS) won the SPA Award for best interactive production. The film premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival and was part of the Cannes Film Festival’s Innovation showcase. From 2012-16 Lucas was Creative Director at Emmy and BAFTA award winning production company Hoodlum. His work at Hoodlum included multiplatform campaigns for major film and television properties including SALT (Sony), The Bourne Legacy (Universal), Divergent (eOne) and Dance Academy (Werner Films/ABC TV). Lucas was also a key part of Hoodlum’s in-house development team, which generated film and television hits including Five Bedrooms (Ten), Harrow (ABC), Australia Day (Foxtel), Secrets & Lies (Ten), SLiDE (Foxtel) and The Strange Calls (ABC).
