PROGRAM
Rise of the Indie Feature
The indie feature is having its renaissance. As producers seek to leverage creative new pathways to audience—plus alternative funding and distribution models in an environment of contracting resources—the indie (and horror indie) has grown in popularity. Explore the divergent paths of independent feature productions and examine how scale impacts storytelling, financing, risk, reach and creative autonomy through this diverse panel of creatives. Learn the ingenious strategies and hard-earned lessons of our panellists and how to apply them to your own projects.
Creative Cut-Through: What’s hot (and what’s not) on the global stage
This ‘meet the commissioners’ style panel examines key trends emerging from the global content market. Discover the winning recipe for the elusive ‘local-for-global’ story from these key decision-makers and learn how to take your Queensland stories worldwide.
In Conversation with Dierdre Brennan and Jacqui Feeney
In an era of industry shifts—global platforms dominating, budgets tightening, audiences splintering and demand soaring for authentic Australian voices—who’s truly shaping the future of our screen stories?
This candid conversation between the CEOs of Screen Queensland and Screen Australia cuts through the noise to tackle the creative, cultural and commercial crossroads the sector faces. It’s not just about policy, it’s about priorities—which stories get funded, who leads the charge and how we can champion bold, export-ready and unmistakably Australian content.
Unlocking Value: New strategies to monetise screen content and build audiences
In today’s fragmented, fast-moving media landscape, the question is no longer just how to make great content—but how to make it work harder. This panel explores how screen stories can generate value beyond traditional broadcast or streaming models, through innovative release strategies, multiplatform storytelling and deeper audience engagement.
From free, ad-supported digital platforms to merchandise, social media monetisation and brand extensions, the conversation will unpack how creators are finding new ways to finance, sustain and grow their work in a competitive and changing market.
The Debate: AI, friend or foe of creativity
Like it or loathe, the AI genie is well and truly out of the bottle. In this new ‘debate’ format hear from writers, regulators and platforms sitting at either end of the spectrum. Along the way learn about the latest advances in AI-assisted creative development and how creatives are harnessing these tools or rejecting them entirely. With a focus on writing and ideas generation, this panel is sure to bring out the best and worst of AI when it comes to creativity in the screen sector.
