Screen Queensland, in partnership with Screenworks, will be hosting the NQ Screen Skills: Understanding Proof of Concept workshop. Held in Cairns over two days, the workshop will provide participants with the skills to develop a concept from idea to pitch through project development skills, practical filming experience, and experienced industry speakers.

The workshop will be delivered by Adam Grossetti, award wining writer, producer and concept originator of ABC TV’s The Black Hand and local creator Alex Smee from Multi Story Media.

WORKSHOP OVERVIEW

The NQ Screen Skills: Understanding Proof of Concept workshop will be open to up to 20 participants

Over the two-day course, the participants will receive an overview of the below skills to learn how to scope a project, develop a pitch and engage with financiers and distributors.

Attendees will work individually or in teams on projects to develop and deliver a pitch. They will practice filming a digital pitch and piece to camera, working with professional editors and creative producers to sharpen skills which articulately convey a creative vision.

Each participant must be available for the two days, as this is a continual workshop.

ABOUT ADAM GROSSETTI

Adam Grossetti is a writer, producer and concept originator of ABC TV’s The Black Hand (WildBear Entertainment & eOne Entertainment/Lionsgate) He has worked in writers’ rooms developing episodic television for series including Troppo and Sea Patrol. As producer/writer on multiple radio documentaries for ABC Radio National, and writer/researcher for documentary series including Future Warfare (2022), Fatal Shot (2021), Cold War Tech Race (2021); He co-created and wrote the multi award winning web-series Low Life (2015) and has been produced on stage for companies including the Sydney Theatre Company, Queensland Theatre, Belvior St BSharp. He is a recipient of The Queensland Premier’s Award for Drama, Phillip Parsons Playwrights Award, Bilbao Web Fest Best Drama, Marseille Web Fest Prix Coup de coeur, Award, UK Web Fest Best International Web Series, Buenos Aires Web Fest, (best writer/web series)

ABOUT ALEX SMEE

Alex is an an editor, director, writer, shooter and producer, with diverse experience across film, TV, radio and online platforms. She has worked in the media industry for over twenty years. She developed a particular passion for community projects during a decade in the Kimberley where she worked as the ABC Open Producer, creating stories for ABC TV, radio and online, and sharing multimedia skills in remote communities across the region.

Alex is now based in Far North Queensland and freelances as Multi Story Media, a purpose driven entity that collaborates with community organisations across the country, creating content for advocacy, public awareness and education, and she continues to share her skills through creative workshop programs—so people can tell their own stories.
