ABOUT MATT GELLER

Matt Geller is an experienced entertainment executive and feature film and television producer with a background in development, domestic and international co-productions, packaging and sales. With a deep understanding of intellectual property development and longstanding relationships across the creative community, Geller has established himself as a strategic operator in shaping premium film and television packages.

He currently serves as a Principal and Head of Creative at Balboa Productions, the entertainment company founded by screen legend Sylvester Stallone.

Previously, Geller was President of a production company behind Disney’s The Enchanted franchise, Lionsgate’s Dirty Grandpa, and Fox’s long-running series Bones. Over more than half a decade, he ran the company’s day-to-day operations, architected its strategy and oversaw robust film and television divisions. During his tenure, the company produced a landmark movie-musical adaptation of the cult classic Kiss of the Spider Woman, written and directed by Academy Award winner Bill Condon and starring Jennifer Lopez opposite Diego Luna and Tonatiuh. The film was an official selection of the Sundance Film Festival.

Prior to that, Geller produced two acclaimed feature films back-to-back. Remember, starring Academy Award winners Christopher Plummer and Martin Landau and directed by two-time Academy Award nominee Atom Egoyan, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, competed at the Venice Film Festival, and was released theatrically by A24. His next film, Born to Be Blue, a Chet Baker biopic starring Academy Award nominee Ethan Hawke, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival as a specialty selection.

In television, Geller served as Co-Executive Producer on the half-hour comedy Four in the Morning, created by Ira Parker and ordered straight to series by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. He also produced Departure, which reunited him with Christopher Plummer, completed three seasons, and was acquired for U.S. distribution by Peacock/NBC.

Geller was also Co-Head of Programming and part of the original team that launched Raze, a media company co-founded by Sofia Vergara and Luis Balaguer and funded by Greycroft Partners and The Raine Group. There, he oversaw scripted development and the production of short-form and long-form content across live action and animation. He also spearheaded a genre-film slate deal with Pantelion Films/Lionsgate, with production based in the Dominican Republic, and was instrumental in launching 365 Days of Love, a daily docu-series for Facebook Watch.

Earlier in his career, Geller ran Six Point Films, a production company owned by Branko Lustig, the Academy Award-winning producer of Schindler’s List and Gladiator. During his tenure, the company developed the US-Chinese co-production Leaving Shanghai, based on the true story of a Jewish family who escaped the Third Reich by immigrating to China, and produced a reformat of the Israeli series Pini.

Geller also oversaw Wonderfalls Entertainment, the director-driven production company led by Tony Award nominee Kristin Hanggi, creator of the musical Rock of Ages. During his time there, Hanggi directed Naomi and Ely’s No Kiss List, Dear Dumb Diary and Surf: A Beach Boys Musical at Planet Hollywood.

At Lightworks Pictures, Geller held a senior creative position specializing in branded franchises based on Christian Booksellers Association novels with partner Sony AFFIRM. In addition to overseeing multiple Movies of the Week, he worked on the reality series American Bible Challenge for Game Show Network and the documentary Serving Life, narrated by Forest Whitaker, which was acquired by Oprah Winfrey’s OWN and won the Humanitas Award.

Geller also served as a distribution executive at Focus Features, contributing to distribution campaigns for films including Hot Fuzz, Eastern Promises, Lust, Caution, Reservation Road and BAFTA Award winner Atonement. Earlier, he was a development executive at DLT Entertainment, working on BBC One’s comedy My Family, reunion specials for As Time Goes By starring Dame Judi Dench, a Russian adaptation of Three’s Company for REN TV and the U.S. distribution of the Australian soap opera Neighbours on Oxygen Media.

Geller is a member of the Producers Guild of America and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two children.
