Guy Pearce coming to Queensland with feature film Flammable Children

Tuesday 23 February 2016: Screen Queensland (SQ) today announced it has attracted another major feature film to Queensland with Flammable Children, a comedy written and to be directed by BAFTA-nominee Stephan Elliott (The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert) commencing pre-production in mid-August and cameras to roll in early October.

Flammable Children is a comedy set on the sunny beaches of Australia in the mid-1970s and will star Guy Pearce (The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, The Rover, Iron Man 3) and Radha Mitchell (Silent Hill, Man on Fire, Finding Neverland), with more cast to be announced. It is being produced by Wildheart Films’ Al Clark (The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Chopper, Red Hill) and See Pictures’ Jamie Hilton (Breath, The Waiting City, Backtrack).

‘We are thrilled Stephan and the producers of Flammable Children have chosen Queensland to shoot their film and the opportunities that will be afforded to our world-class local creatives and crew,’ said Screen Queensland CEO Tracey Vieira.

‘This news is another major boost to our local industry and follows on from back-to-back domestic and international film and television productions.

‘Productions like Flammable Children create jobs, up-skill our local crew and creative base and create greater certainty to our local industry.’

Flammable Children will film in South East Queensland, employ around 120 Queensland crew and spend more than $6 million on Queenslanders and Queensland businesses. The production will utilise Queensland’s excellent facilities and its stunning and diverse locations.

‘As well as the economic benefits that Flammable Children will bring to Queensland, we are vigorous in our support of such domestic productions that enrich our lives and allow us to see our culture reflected back on the screen.’

Stephan Elliott will lead an army of award-winning cast and crew and reunite with many of his award-winning Priscilla team including producer Al Clark, Oscar-nominated and BAFTA winning production designer Colin Gibson (Mad Max: Fury Road), Oscar-winning costume designer Lizzy Gardiner (Mission: Impossible II), BAFTA-nominated score composer Guy Gross (Knowing) and Emmy Award nominated film editor Sue Blainey (Lost, Mozart in the Jungle).

‘Stephan’s previous films — Frauds, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert and Welcome to Woop Woop — were all officially selected to screen at the Cannes Film Festival, with ‘Priscilla’ winning the Prix du Public as well as an Academy Award for Best Costume Design,’ said Ms Vieira.

‘Our local industry will significantly benefit from working on Flammable Children and with their support, I am certain Stephan can win another Academy Award and Prix du Public!’

WestEnd Films has acquired international rights to Flammable Children.
