ABC unveils Fortitude Valley–a gritty new crime series set in Brisbane’s underbelly
Queensland’s Moving Floor Entertainment is set to commence production on a new ABC crime series set in the heart of Brisbane, placing one of the city’s most recognisable precincts at the centre of the story.
Supported through Screen Queensland’s Screen Finance Fund and Post, Digital and Visual Effects (PDV) Incentive, Fortitude Valley is a suspenseful crime thriller set in the sunshine and shadow of Queensland’s capital, exploring family secrets, the corrupting force of power and the complicated truths behind the lies we tell.
With filming set to begin in Brisbane this April, the gripping six-part series will star award-winning First Nations actor Hunter Page-Lochard (Reckless, The Newsreader) and acclaimed actress Kat Stewart (Offspring, Black Snow Season Two), with filming and post-production taking place entirely in the state.
Screen Queensland CEO Jacqui Feeney said the production is an important opportunity to showcase Queensland’s capital on screen.
“This gripping new crime drama from Queensland’s Moving Floor Entertainment showcases the depth of our homegrown talent. Conceived and written for a vibrant Brisbane backdrop, the series will be filmed and post-produced entirely in Queensland—a powerful testament to the scale, skill and creative energy of our industry. We applaud ABC for backing bold locally made stories that connect with audiences here and around the world.”
ABC Head of Scripted Rachel Okine said, “It’s a masterfully plotted crime thriller where legacy and loyalty are put to the ultimate test. We can’t wait to share every twist and turn with audiences.”
Moving Floor Entertainment co-founders Leigh McGrath and Stephen M Irwin said, “To be working again with our national broadcaster and filming in our hometown of Brisbane—where the show is set — is a privilege. We are proud of the cast and crew assembled for the series.”
The series will air on ABC TV and ABC iview in 2027, joining a recent slate of Screen Queensland-supported productions including Muster Dogs, Dance with Tom, Troppo Season Two and the upcoming Dustfall.
