MEDIA RELEASE – For Immediate Release
Screen Queensland today announced Film Fantastic as the successful partner to deliver Brisbane International Film Festival (BIFF) for three years from 2021 (21 to 31 October) to 2023.
In appointing Film Fantastic as the chosen partner for BIFF 2021 to 2023, Screen Queensland commented on the organisation’s stellar performance delivering Gold Coast Film Festival over many years and its outstanding BIFF tender in a competitive field.
Screen Queensland CEO Kylie Munnich that the future of Brisbane’s beloved film festival and its proud 25-year legacy, “could not be in more capable or experienced hands”.
“Film Fantastic’s impressive track record, having grown Gold Coast Film Festival audiences by 600 per cent since 2015, provides a strong foundation on which to build an exciting new chapter for BIFF,” Ms Munnich said.
“With a bold and inclusive vision for this heart-and-soul Brisbane festival, the 11-day event will be run by a Brisbane-based team and cater for cinephiles, the screen industry and students across national and international audiences.
“Film Fantastic also intends to build on the success of the previous partner, QAGOMA, and the work achieved in elevating and maturing the BIFF program and expanding its audience profile.
“The Screen Queensland Board was also impressed by Film Fantastic’s dedication to delivering a diverse and broad festival for loyal BIFF fans.
“By supporting screen culture events like BIFF, Screen Queensland sustains vital platforms for emerging filmmakers to showcase their productions, while inspiring the next generation of screen practitioners and connecting audiences near and far through the special magic of cinematic storytelling.”
Film Fantastic Chair Sue-Anne Chapman said Brisbane audiences and visitors in 2021 can look forward to a full and diverse line-up of Australian and international films, an extensive industry offering and a special cultural events program.
“Film Fantastic is thrilled to have secured the tender for Brisbane International Film Festival and to be staging the event in 2021, in partnership with Screen Queensland,” Ms Chapman said.
“With nearly 20 years’ experience in delivering the Gold Coast Film Festival, we are in a strong position to honour the incredible legacy of Brisbane International Film Festival, while bringing Queensland’s premier screen culture event, and its distinctively Brisbane flavour, to new and diverse audiences.”
Film Fantastic will be opening its Brisbane-based headquarters soon and assembling their team, including the BIFF Festival Director and other key roles.
