Screen Queensland has revealed that cameras will roll in Cairns this April on the highly anticipated third season of Stan Original series Black Snow, starring Travis Fimmel.
The Goalpost Pictures production is the largest series to be filmed to date at Screen Queensland Studios, Cairns and returns with a new mystery, a new supporting cast and a new location in Far North Queensland.
In season three, Travis Fimmel reprises his role as James Cormack, picking up right as his long-lost bother Ritchie (George Mason) is about to stand trial for the 1999 murder of his best friend Liam Knox.
Set in tropical Far North Queensland, where Liam’s family runs a charter boat business, Cormack will risk everything to solve the toughest cold case of his career. Rose Riley returns as Jade alongside new cast members Lee Tiger Halley (Boy Swallows Universe, Beast of War), Caroline Craig (Anzac Girls) and Samson Alston (Year Of).
Minister for the Arts, John-Paul Langbroek said that the new season of Black Snow is delivering strong economic and employment benefits to Far North Queensland while showcasing the region’s stunning locations to a global audience.
“The Crisafulli Government is proud to support this acclaimed homegrown series through Screen Queensland’s Production Attraction Strategy—a production which will contribute an estimated $11.2 million to the local economy while employing around 135 cast and crew,” Minister Langbroek said.
Screen Queensland CEO Jacqui Feeney said that the continued success of Black Snow highlighted the strong audience appetite for authentic Queensland screen stories and the state’s unique landscapes which are inherent to the series.
“Series creator Lucas Taylor is adept at crafting gripping mysteries where regional Queensland locations, including Proserpine and the Glasshouse Mountains, are as much a lead character as stars like Travis Fimmel, and we look forward to local and international audiences experiencing Far North Queensland in a new light.
“Premium Australian series like Black Snow support a range of local businesses while filming in regional centres, and the Cairns shoot will provide important upskilling opportunities to the growing local crew base, as well as utilising the state-of-the-art facilities at Screen Queensland Studios, Cairns.”
