Screen Queensland has today announced that award-winning Queensland-born actor and producer Miranda Otto will be a special guest speaker at its annual industry event, In the Frame: Screen Queensland Practitioners Forum, to be held on Wednesday 21 August at State Library of Queensland.
Tickets are now on sale for the full-day event that applies a local lens to screen production, with seven sessions plus networking opportunities to inform and inspire Queensland screen practitioners. Also revealed is an ‘in conversation’ session with Anya Beyersdorf, creator of Fake and writer on Queensland documentary series The Black Hand (WildBear Entertainment).
Sessions will focus on keeping pace with digital formats, factual filmmaking with purpose, the power of cross-cultural partnerships, the state of play of the screen sector and more. For the first time, In the Frame will also be available to practitioners across the state via livestream.
Jacqui Feeney, Screen Queensland CEO said that the agency was delighted to welcome Miranda Otto back to Brisbane after she was last here for The Portable Door (Story Bridge Films and The Jim Henson Company) and notes that her appearance is part of In the Frame’s focus on starting local and aiming global.
“As production in Queensland continues to grow, it’s important we strike the right balance between international and local production by enabling our practitioners to come together to share local knowledge and explore new pathways for the sunshine state to continue as a driving force on the national and international stage.
“We are ambitious for Queensland’s screen practitioners and production companies, and In the Frame is focused on strengthening and expanding the local ecosystem, to ensure we collectively have the vision, capacity and capability to bring a bigger and broader slate of homegrown stories to screens here and around the world.
“As funding and distribution models continue to evolve, In the Frame is also an invitation for emerging and mid-career practitioners to consider how they might be part of a step-change that helps match industry expertise with fresh thinking,” Ms Feeney said.
In the Frame: Screen Queensland Practitioners Forum will run from 8:30am to 6pm, with tickets $65 (plus booking fee) including lunch and networking refreshments. Livestream tickets are also available for $25 (plus booking fee).
