Premier welcomes launch schedule for Stan’s Queensland feature ‘The Second’
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has welcomed news that The Second, a Screen Queensland and Stan Original Feature Film, will premiere in cinemas nationwide on July 5 followed by its release on Stan on July 20.
The Second features an all-star Australian cast and was shot on location at a historic homestead near Dalby on Queensland’s Western Downs.
“Although its spectacular drama and storytelling will have a global appeal, there’s no doubt The Second is a Queensland film through and through,” the Premier said.
“It was written and produced by Brisbane’s Stephen Lance and directed by Brisbane’s Mairi Cameron.
“It was shot at the 177-year-old Jimbour House, features music written by Queensland composer Ryan Walsh and performed by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.
“The Second was funded through Screen Queensland’s landmark Queensland Originals: Fully Funded Features with Stan initiative, and had its Australian premiere at the Gold Coast Film Festival in April.
“The Second is a true showcase of Queensland talent and my Government, through Screen Queensland, is proud to support this contemporary and compelling Australian film.”
Stan’s Chief Content Officer, Nick Forward said “With a standout cast, a terrific script from Stephen Lance and Mairi Cameron doing such an incredible job in her feature film directorial debut, we’re hugely proud of The Second.”
“We’re excited to be delivering yet another Australian first with this revolutionary release strategy, and are grateful to Screen Queensland for their support in bringing The Second to the screen.”
The Second is the story of an author struggling to produce a follow-up novel to her racy first best-seller.
In an attempt to overcome writer’s block, the author and her publisher boyfriend go for a long weekend at her family’s country home.
But the ghosts of her past rise to the surface.
The Second stars Rachael Blake (Lantana), Susie Porter (Two Hands), Vince Colosimo (Chopper), Martin Sacks (A Place To Call Home) and Susan Prior (Puberty Blues).
The Second has been selected in the upcoming 2018 Sydney Film Festival.
