MEDIA RELEASE
Content, a trail-blazing new comedy series from multi Emmy and Logie Award-winning Ludo Studio, the makers of Bluey, has launched this week with scenes from the first episode going viral as fake news, in a perfect twist of life imitating art.
Content is the world’s first scripted vertical video drama set on a phone that depicts wannabe influencer and millennial Lucy in her pursuit for fame but when a car crash makes her a worldwide meme her life changes course forever.
Screen Queensland is proud to have invested in this innovative project that creates screen content in a novel way to meet audience trends and viewing preferences on mobile devices.
Jo Dillon, Screen Queensland Acting CEO, said Content epitomises the bold and dynamic screen content that is the hallmark of Queensland productions.
“Content is made by a stellar team of Queensland content creators at Ludo Studio that are brave, funny and bold, poking fun at ourselves and contemporary fixations on self-image, using the very implement at the heart of obsession, mobile phones.
“It’s also wonderful to have one of our SQ Mentorship alumni Meg O’Connell expand her credits as Producer/Executive Producer in this production and continue to build a solid career in the screen industry,” said Ms Dillon.
Meg O’Connell said the vertical video “screen life” format is coming fast to global audiences and we are the pioneers of that format in Australia.
“For the last decade, contemporary film and television has attempted to capture the effects of our increasing reliance on phones from the outside, but Content presents the first opportunity to see the way we interact with this technology head-on,” said Ms O’Connell.
The show takes place in real time on Lucy’s smartphone. When she’s interfacing with her phone – we’re interfacing with her. But it’s not just the social apps where we see the story play out. We see inside Lucy’s mind: her google searches, private messages, photo albums, phone calls and everything she wouldn’t want to reveal. The show focuses on the collision of her private and public worlds in each episode.
Content is a Ludo Studio production for the ABC. Principal production investment from Screen Australia, in association with Screen Queensland.
