Screen Queensland announces Screen Culture in focus throughout Queensland
Queensland’s diverse and innovative film festivals and events landscape is set for a boost with the announcement of 15 recipients of Screen Culture funding under Round 1 of the program for events occurring between 1 July to 31 December 2018.
The Queensland Government, through Screen Queensland, has provided $107,500 in this first round of the 2018-19 financial year to support film festivals and events that help build a dynamic and vibrant screen culture across the State.
Tracey Vieira, Screen Queensland CEO, said communities across Queensland take tremendous pride in their Screen Culture festivals and events that attract, entertain and delight locals and tourists alike.
“From the Port Shorts Film Festival in Port Douglas, to the Vision Splendid Film Festival in Winton and the Gold Coast Film Festival in the South East, the Screen Culture funding program brings communities together throughout our State to celebrate filmmaking, games and storytelling,” said Ms Vieira.
Port Shorts Film Festival Director Alison George said the Screen Culture funding helped bring high-profile Australian screen stars to Port Douglas to share their industry knowledge and passion for filmmaking with the local community.
“The Screen Culture funding helps us showcase the best shorts from across Australia, host a filmmaker forum and conduct workshops with industry experts to help develop skills in the Far North Queensland screen industry,” said Ms George.
Round Two Screen Culture funding is now open to festivals and events taking place between 1 January 2019 and 30 June 2019 that:
· increase access to screen content in Queensland, from traditional cinema to new platforms;
· support regional and remote screen festivals;
· increase audience choices;
· provide diverse content;
· maximise Queensland content.
Funding is competitive and to ensure a broad range of events are supported, funding is capped for projects of cultural significance and touring film festivals.
Applications close at 5.00pm on Thursday 18 October 2018.
