Four bold and compelling online series will share in $200,000 of funding through Screen Queensland’s third round of Online Production Grants.

Each project will receive $50,000 in production funding, supporting Queensland practitioners to create innovative online content, gain valuable credits and connect with global audiences while expanding local intellectual property.

Minister for the Arts John-Paul Langbroek said Screen Queensland’s Online Production Grants continue to create opportunities for Queensland creatives in the rapidly growing creator economy.

“By investing in online production, we are helping Queensland creators to push their potential and to position their projects on accessible platforms with global reach.

“Online content is an increasingly important part of the screen ecosystem enjoyed by millions of Australians, which is why we want Queensland creators to not only participate in this growing industry, but to lead it.”

Screen Queensland CEO Jacqui Feeney congratulated the four successful recipients, recognising the importance of investing in Queensland creators and their original ideas.

“These projects demonstrate the breadth and originality of Queensland’s online creative sector, with stories spanning feminist noir comedy, sustainable fashion, rare Australian wildlife and the fascinating world of vintage guitars.”

“This round also reflects the strength of factual storytelling online, where creators can connect directly with audiences and highly engaged communities of interest around the world.

Projects supported through this round of Screen Queensland’s Online Production Grants include:

  • Dear Beth by AACTA and AWGIE-nominated writer and director Jessica Trinity Fisher, is a six-part 1950s feminist noir comedy about an advice columnist who solves her readers’ problems with murderous precision.
  • Sew Reel by creative producer, participatory contemporary artist and theatre maker Emma Che Raethke, is an online series following two seamstresses who transform discarded garments and give them a second life.
  • Hidden Lives of Australia by marine biologist-turned-filmmaker Thomas Ashton, is a wildlife series uncovering some of Australia’s rarely seen natural stories.
  • Tony Guitarnerd by music industry identity, vintage guitar aficionado and collector Tony Giacca, takes audiences backstage into the world of vintage guitars, musicians and timeless craftsmanship.

Screen Queensland is committed to growing our state’s online creative sector through initiatives like the Online Production Grants. Previous projects include Ina, which made its World Premiere at the prestigious Canneseries, and Finally, A Show About Men! which released through high-profile Australian comedy platform Grouse House.
