Meet the First Nations-owned businesses making a splash in Queensland


This October for Indigenous Business Month, we want to highlight some of Queensland’s skilled Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-owned businesses who are showcasing authentic and original new voices and stories on screen. 

Allstory Pictures

Dean Gibson (writer/director) and Helen Morrison (writer/producer) have teamed up as formal business partners to launch Allstory Pictures, a production company focused on developing and producing a diverse range of drama, factual and children’s content. Dean brings over two decades of directing experience, having shaped productions for ABC, NITV, SBS, and various online and corporate platforms. Helen, with over 20 years in the industry, has delivered over 60 hours of broadcast television, including work for ABC1, ABC2, ABC3, NITV, and Sesame Street. Together, they are committed to creating compelling and entertaining content for audiences worldwide.

Lonestar Entertainment

Lonestar Entertainment creates original screen content across a range of genres (including documentary, drama, and comedy) and platforms such as television, feature films and digital. Tapping into the Torres Strait Islander heritage of Managing Director, Aaron Fa’Aoso, the name Lonestar was inspired by thousands of years of his people’s culture and seafaring expertise. Lonestar aims to capture that complex spirit in productions that are commercial, entertaining and inspiring. Lonestar Entertainment created and produced Screen Queensland-supported projects Strait to the Plate (Season 1 and 2) and Blue Water Empire.

New Dream Productions

New Dream Productions, led by Managing Director David Cook, specialises in showcasing First Nations perspectives and crafting cinematic narratives that not only capture the heart of a story also also create meaningful connections. They create for visionary leaders and companies who understand the power of storytelling, and bring authenticity, cultural insight and cinematic excellence to every project.  

No Coincidence Media

No Coincidence Media is an independent film and television production company that develops and produces raw, authentic and signature feature films and documentaries, including Warwick Thornton’s documentary series on A24 and SBS Demand, The Beach, the Australian and New Zealand co-production feature film available on Netflix, We Are Still Here, and the Sydney Film Festival audience award-winning feature film that debuted at Sundance Film Festival, The Moogai.

Pandamonium Films

Founded in 2021 by Shontell Leah Ketchell and based in Cairns, Pandamonium Films specialises in bringing First Nations stories to the forefront of film and documentary. Pandamonium Films has gained prominence for its dedication to authentic storytelling, ensuring that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives are not just included but are celebrated.  

With a focus on both documentary and scripted content, Pandamonium Films stands as a pivotal force for cultural diversity and inclusion, highlighting the richness and diversity of First Nations and Far North Queensland narratives to a national and global audiences. 

Resonant Films

Founded by writer-director Caden Pearson and based in Cairns, Resonant Films is a First Nations-led screenwriting and production company committed to telling bold, high-quality stories across television, film and factual formats. With a strong focus on genres like mystery, grounded sci-fi and fantasy, the company champions First Nations authorship in spaces where these voices are rarely seen. 

While grounded in Far North Queensland and shaped by a First Nations worldview, Resonant Films tells stories that speak to something bigger—our shared humanity. Through storytelling that uplifts, entertains and connects, the company creates work that resonates locally, nationally and globally—reminding us we are all more alike than we are different. 

Wirrim Media

Wirrim Media is a dynamic, full-service media production company based on the Gold Coast, working Australia-wide. They specialise in documentary, narrative film, branded content, commercial video and photography. The team work across all sectors and genres to deliver world-class content, travelling Australia and internationally to producing media projects that resonate on both a local and global scale. ​Born from a deep connection to country and a passion for powerful story telling. Wirrim Media was founded on the values of authenticity, creativity, and impact. The name “Wirrim” is inspired by Wirrimbirra, meaning beautiful home. “Wirrim” now represents the home they have built for compelling, meaningful and diverse media production.
