Screen Queensland (SQ) and the Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC) are offering a special discount rate for 15 Queensland practitioners to attend the conference taking place at ACMI, Melbourne from the 3 – 6 March 2019.

SQ and AIDC will offer 15 Queensland resident practitioners a special discount rate which will be allocated on a first-in best dressed basis.

The first 15 Queenslanders to register via the link below will receive a code which they can use to purchase their online ticket.

This discount rate will be at a saving of $240 (inc. GST) per full price ticket and a total cost of $730.00 (inc. GST). Current independent passes without the discount are on sale for $970 (inc GST).

CALL-OUT FOR AIDC 2019 INDIGENOUS CREATORS PROGRAM 

Submissions close at 5:00pm this Friday 25 January 2019 (AEST).

SQ (along with other state agencies) is partnering with Screen Australia’s Indigenous Department, in conjunction with the Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC), and funding five Queensland-based Indigenous Participants to attend AIDC in 2019.

SQ is funding a total of $10,000 for this initiative.

AIDC 2019 INDIGENOUS CREATORS PROGRAM

Screen Australia’s Indigenous Department, in conjunction with the Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC), are partnering with state agencies Film Victoria, Create NSW, Screenwest, Screen Territory, Screen Queensland, South Australian Film Corporation and Screen Tasmania to bring emerging Indigenous practitioners to Melbourne for AIDC which will be take place from Sunday 3 to Wednesday 6 March 2019 at ACMI.

AIDC will be adding to its program a number of sessions designed specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander practitioners. These sessions make up the Indigenous Creators Program, which will be private and open only to Indigenous-identifying delegates, and will provide targeted information and skills around pitching, storytelling, funding, legal and distribution.

While the sessions can be attended by anyone identifying as Indigenous, they will be designed predominantly for:

● early-career practitioners working across documentary, factual television and interactive non-fiction;
● practitioners who have their first or second project ready for the AIDC marketplace.

The goals of the program include:

● Providing concrete skills on how and when to pitch projects to potential decision makers (with a focus on the AIDC marketplace);
● Tips on strengthening storytelling for documentary and non-fiction content;
● Offering essential information around access to funding for Indigenous practitioners by Screen Australia;
● Giving a clear overview around key legal requirements and issues that are common within documentary practice;
● Strengthening the understanding of distribution and broadcast opportunities as well as audience pathways in relation to local and international content.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:

The optional program will be made available to all Indigenous practitioners registered to attend AIDC with an All Access or Focus Pass, with more information regarding the program made available in February.

TRAVEL and REGISTRATION ASSISTANCE

Screen Australia’s Indigenous Department and state funding agencies are assisting Indigenous practitioners to attend AIDC, with a limited number of passes and/or travel grants being made available across the country.

For AIDC 2019, SQ’s travel and marketing programs above will be the only assistance offered to practitioners wishing to attend.

Domestic Travel and Marketing Applications will be considered for practitioners who fit the Domestic Travel eligibility criteria and whose projects have been selected to screen or take part in a market at the conference – in this case, please contact SQ’s Content team to discuss.
