Queensland welcomes back animation summit in 2017

Brisbane will once again serve as an international screen hub for a gathering of animation producers, distributors and broadcasters when the Asian Animation Summit (AAS) returns to Queensland in 2017 for its second consecutive year.

Screen Queensland CEO Tracey Vieira said the Summit, to be held from 29 November to 1 December, would attract attendees from across the Asia-Pacific to present new projects and explore new market models.

“The AAS was held in Brisbane last year for the first time and was a great success,” Ms Vieira said.

“The event’s return to Brisbane in 2017 will once again put Queensland in the international spotlight with a focus on the latest concepts and trends in animation.”

“The AAS will see more than 20 projects from Australia, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and elsewhere in the Asia-Pacific presented to the international marketplace for the first time,” she said.

“The AAS facilitates the co-production of Asian-region animation projects for television, subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) services and the internet and Screen Queensland is perfectly placed to benefit from the successful partnerships that arise.”

Premier and Arts Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk said the summit delivered on the Queensland Government’s Advance Queensland initiative, putting Queensland at the forefront of innovation.

“The Queensland Government supports the AAS through Screen Queensland to invest in the future,” Ms Palaszczuk said.

“The summit is a wonderful opportunity to expose our local talent to the latest creative techniques and to showcase our region to international animation presenters, producers and investors.”

The AAS attracts producers of animation who are interested in co-producing projects with partners in the Asia-Pacific as well as broadcasters, distributors and investors from the region and beyond.

The Summit is expected to attract up to 250 animation professionals to Brisbane. Supported by Screen Queensland and Brisbane Marketing, the Asian Animation Summit takes place from 29 November to 1 December 2017.
