Australia’s latest psychological thriller, The Fear of Darkness will have its world premiere at the Gold Coast Film Festival this Saturday 11 April at 6.30pm at the Gold Coast Arts Centre.

As part of this very special event, there will also be a Q&A with cast and crew following the screening.

Written and directed by Chris Fitchett (Blurred, Blood Money), The Fear of Darkness was shot entirely in Queensland and has secured distributors in the US, UK and Turkey.

Screen Queensland CEO Tracey Vieira visited the set at Village Roadshow Studios during production last year.

‘This is such an important production in that Mark (Overett) and Chris (Fitchett) brought together a team of both experienced screen practitioners and interns in the process of mapping out their career pathway and acquiring new skills,’ said Ms Vieira.

‘What a wonderful opportunity for these individuals in the very early stages of their development to learn hands-on during a production.

‘They worked alongside experienced crew and a stellar cast and earned their first screen credit which can catapult them into more work in the next few years resulting in a stronger Queensland industry.

‘I am so thrilled that the world premiere is taking place at the Screen Queensland supported Gold Coast Film Festival. This is a great example of our funding going full circle from supporting a film through development to production to supporting the festival that will premiere The Fear of Darkness to the public.

I hope all industry attends this special event.’

The Fear of Darkness marks the return to directing of industry veteran Chris Fitchett, who more recently has been identified as a Producer of the schoolies comedy hit Blurred and whose directing CV includes the successful genre featureBlood Money starring Bryan Brown.

Produced by Mark Overett (Separation City), the film features a stellar line-up of Australian stars including Maeve Dermody (Black Water), Penelope Mitchell (The Vampire Diaries), Aaron Pedersen (Mystery Road), Damien Garvey (Rake), Mark Leonard Winter (Van Diemen’s Land) and Chris Sommers (The Water Diviner).

‘For us, the Gold Coast Film Festival is the ideal venue to premiere our film which has come together with the help and talent of so many local crew, cast and supporters. We cannot wait for everyone to see it!’ said writer/director Chris Fitchett.

The Fear of Darkness tells the story of a brilliant young psychiatrist (DERMODY) who is forced to confront the dark creature that dwells deep within her own unconscious, when she tends to a young university student (MITCHELL) suspected of the bloody murder of her student boyfriend.

Proudly supported by Screen Queensland, The Fear of Darkness was shot entirely on location in South East Queensland and Village Roadshow Studios.
