The SQ-supported documentary Wawu Divine Hope will premiere on 27 July on NITV, as part of the Karla Grant Presents program.
Through the heartfelt tales of some of Hope Vale’s thoughtful residents, Wawu Divine Hope explores the spirit of a place through a special annual Easter event in which people transform their graveyard into a garden.
Wawu explores how this annual event represents more than just a tradition; for some it’s a link to the past, for others it’s a therapy session in nature, or a painful reminder of a lost loved one, but for all it is a deeply meaningful time to be together as a community.
“Screen Queensland and NITV took a risk and supported an Indigenous filmmaker from Far North Queensland, to earn three credits as writer, director, and producer on my first significant broadcast documentary, ” says creator, Bagarrmugu and Kuku Yalanji man Caden Pearson.
” It’s a massive career goal for me, and having spent the last year bringing it to life I feel empowered to tackle new projects.”
Watch Wawu Divine Hope on NITV 27 July at 8:30pm, and follow the project Facebook Page.
