Queensland Shines A Light On Brisbane International Film Festival

Screen Queensland CEO, Bryan Lowe today announced the dates for the states premier film festival, Screen Queensland’s Brisbane International Film Festival (BIFF). Launching on November 13 and running for 12 days through to November 24, BIFF is a world class festival designed to showcase the best films from around the globe.

“The stage is set for Queensland’s biggest film festival season which will feature over 130 films spanning an array of genres and topics that is sure to entertain audiences of all ages.” Mr Lowe said.

BIFF, now in its 22nd year, is also launching BIFF GenNext a newly branded festival program specifically designed for students, to run from October 14 through to October 20. Films screened at the festival are crafted by a cross-section of filmmakers, from highly acclaimed film auteurs to up-and-coming talents.

Screen Queensland continues to support events such as BIFF to make Brisbane a vibrant cultural hub for locals and visitors alike. At last year’s 21st BIFF, 43 Australian premieres and three World premieres were screened.

“You don’t need to be a film buff to enjoy BIFF’s inspiring celebration of film. The 22nd annual Brisbane International Film Festival will continue to entertain, educated and excite audiences of all ages. There’s something for everyone. Both visitors and Brisbane locals alike can enjoy this fantastic tableau of film.” Mr Lowe said.

BIFF attracted audiences of more than 20,000 in 2012 and will be held at a variety of locations and cinemas throughout the River City.

The BIFF and BIFF GenNext programs for 2013 will be rolled out from July.
