Screen Queensland calling-out for female practitioners to submit EOIs for Queensland Originals: First Concepts with AFTRS as part of the SQ Gender Parity Program

Queensland Originals: First Concepts with AFTRS is an Australian-first partnership between Screen Queensland (SQ) and the Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS) and working with international innovators to shape original Queensland stories exclusively for audiences watching on global on-demand platforms.

SQ, as part of its Gender Parity Program, invites female practitioners to join the SVOD initiative – Queensland Originals: First Concepts with AFTRS – with late EOI applications that are fresh and exciting concepts. Closing date: 9.00am Monday 24 October 2016.

Over the coming weeks, put aside your current slate, dust off those thinking caps and carve out some time to brainstorm ideas for your next big series.

SQ will collect first concepts and identify teams and individuals to take part in the ‘story sessions’ – mentor-led workshops aimed at developing series concepts. AFTRS will develop and deliver a boutique story workshop in collaboration with a US show runner in November/December 2016 (dates TBC).

We encourage you to think BIG as we look for authentically Queensland stories to share with the world.  The recent expert briefings signalled the need to include recognisable talent in a package for international SVOD and there is opportunity to leave a space for such talent in your application at this stage.

Practitioners can apply both as part of a team and as an individual by submitting three fresh* concepts (max. one paragraph each).

*A fresh concept is a concept that has received no previous development funding from any source (commercial, screen agency etc) and should have been conceived with this opportunity in mind and the applicant/team must be able to demonstrate they are the rights holder.

A final decision on the (max.) four projects to be included in the workshop (max. 12 participants) will be managed by SQ and AFTRS, in consultation with a US showrunner (who will lead the story sessions workshop.)

SQ will support successful creatives to further develop their work with a view to taking fleshed out concepts to the SVOD market later in the year.

Closing date: 9.00am Monday 24 October 2016.
