
Screen Queensland’s In the Frame Screen Practitioners Forum will be held in Far North Queensland for the first time this April, with a focus on regional screen production and new opportunities for Queensland screen stories to shine on a local and global stage.
In the Frame Far North Queensland will take place on Tuesday 1 April at Screen Queensland Studios, Cairns, featuring a full day of practical panels, industry insights and networking opportunities for local practitioners.
Tickets are now on sale, with Market and Travel Grants of up to $1,500 available to support regional attendees from across the state.
The forum will feature four panels tackling key topics such as Australian storytelling, forging a career in the evolving screen industry, staying ahead with digital formats and insights into regional filmmaking. Hear from industry leaders and exciting new talents, including:
- Talijah Blackman-Corowa, Actor and Director’s Attachment on Black Snow
- Emily Griggs, Head of Food and Entertainment at SBS, Commissioner of the Taste of the Tropics series filmed in North and Far North Queensland with support from Screen Queensland
- Lana Greenhalgh, Commissioning Editor at Foxtel Group
- Kick Gurry, Writer, Producer and Director of Caught
- Georgia Mappin, Managing Director at Aunty Donna, Haven’t You Done Well Productions
- Mitch Stanley, Executive Producer at No Coincidence Media
- Lucas Taylor, Writer and Creator of Black Snow
Minister for the Arts John-Paul Langbroek said the Crisafulli Government is committed to supporting the growth of the screen industry in North and Far North Queensland.
“Through unique events like In the Frame and training opportunities funded by the North Queensland Regional Program, we are building sustainable career pathways and expanding the scope of local talent in regional areas.”
Screen Queensland CEO Jacqui Feeney highlighted the significance of expanding In the Frame to Far North Queensland and the unique opportunity it provides for local screen practitioners.
“In the Frame Screen Practitioners Forum is all about connecting the state’s screen sector, sharing stories and championing our local talent while navigating industry realities. Expanding this event to Far North Queensland allows regional practitioners to connect directly with experts, gain valuable insights and broaden their opportunities in the industry.
“Queensland has earned a global reputation as a leading production hub and with our exceptional panellists we can explore new ways to leverage the unique strengths of production companies based in Far North Queensland, sparking vital conversations about how we can enhance the state’s capacity to bring more homegrown stories to the screen.”

“In the Frame Far North Queensland is an example of this. It is critical for us to establish a strong, vibrant local screen eco system and establishing this forum as an annual event is a continuation of this work.”
