Paid Games Internships with Gameloft Brisbane

Screen Queensland and Gameloft Brisbane are excited to announce two 6-month paid internship opportunities working in the areas of design and programming at the award-winning Brisbane games studio.

Supported by Screen Queensland, this is an opportunity to join a global games studio that employs over 100 local games developers and has worked on a wide variety of genres and properties, including Carmen Sandiego, The Oregon Trail and My Little Pony: Mane Merge.

INTERN GAME DESIGNER

As an Intern Game Designer, you’ll play an integral role in the game development process, actively contributing to the design and refinement of gameplay mechanics, levels and systems. Working closely with designers, artists and engineers, you’ll help bring engaging features to life while gaining valuable hands-on experience in balancing gameplay, creating documentation and prototyping ideas. 

Location: Fortitude Valley, Brisbane

Duration: six months, full-time

RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in designing and refining game mechanics, levels, and gameplay systems 
  • Collaborating closely with artists, programmers, and other designers to bring creative ideas to life
  • Playtesting and providing feedback on features and levels to ensure fun, balance, and flow
  • Creating and maintaining design documentation, detailing gameplay features, mechanics, and systems
  • Helping with the prototyping of new gameplay ideas and features
  • Supporting the design team in balancing game features and systems to achieve desired player experiences. 

Desired qualifications, skillsets or qualities include:

  • A strong portfolio that highlights your design skills, thought process, and key decision-making abilities within game design. 
  • Completed or currently pursuing a degree in Game Design, Interactive Media, or a related field. 
  • A strong passion for game design, with a keen understanding of player experience and engagement. 
  • Familiarity with game design principles such as pacing, balance, and reward systems. 
  • Basic knowledge of game engines (preferably Unreal Engine). 
  • Strong creative and problem-solving abilities. 
  • Ability to work well within a team and communicate design ideas effectively.

INTERN PROGRAMMER

As an Intern Programmer, you’ll dive into the heart of game development, crafting and fine-tuning game mechanics in Unreal Engine with C++ and Blueprints. Collaborate closely with designers and engineers, tackle bugs, refine code through reviews and leave your mark on cutting-edge projects while sharpening your game dev skills. 

Location: Fortitude Valley, Brisbane

Duration: six months, full-time

RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

Responsibilities include:

  • Working on developing and maintaining game mechanics, systems, and tools in Unreal Engine using C++ programming language and Blueprints. 
  • Collaborating with designers, artists, and engineers to ensure that the game meets the project’s technical requirements and quality standards. 
  • Participating in code reviews to ensure code quality and adherence to coding standards. 
  • Writing and maintaining technical documentation for your work when required. 
  • Troubleshooting and fixing bugs in existing code. 

Desired qualifications, skillsets or qualities include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience with C++ programming language
  • Familiarity with game development principles and best practices
  • Good problem-solving and debugging skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
