Screen Queensland acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as Traditional Custodians of Australia. We recognise their 65,000 years of custodianship that pre-dates colonisation. We pay our respects to Elders, past, present and recognise the cultural and historic connection to land, sea, cosmos (the inclusion of the constellations that are part of a Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander spiritual and environmental narrative) and community. An introduction to the screen industry in Queensland
It may surprise you that some of your favourite films and series, from Bluey to Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, were made in Queensland by skilled local creatives and crew.
Thousands of Queenslanders enjoy long-term careers in our fast-growing screen production industry, which has been running for more than 30 years and generating millions for the state’s economy. Our skilled workers are regularly in demand on local productions seen around the world, as well as international blockbusters led by some of the world’s biggest filmmakers.
Queensland has earned its global reputation as a production paradise through a winning combination of our highly skilled crew, diverse film locations, generous production incentives and highly-equipped studios and post-production facilities. These benefits are boosted by strong and consistent government support at local, state and federal levels, in recognition of the industry’s cultural and economic contributions.
Through Screen Queensland, the Queensland Government invests millions of dollars towards the growth of the industry by funding Australian and international productions, local talent development programs (including workshops and internships) and studio facilities.
This includes construction of the $12.6 million Screen Queensland Studios, Cairns development which is set to open in early 2024 and will open up North and Far North Queensland to filmmaking like never before.
